SUMMARY:

1. Proposed problems to be solved

P1 Design of the structure of an intelligent railway vehicle for the safe, comfortable and efficient transport of passengers and goods in order to relaunch the manufacture of electric trains.
P2 Identification of the possibilities of using the existing infrastructure (electric frame 2720 kW) for the realization by SNTFC “CFR Calatori” SA of a prototype of intelligent vehicle.
P3 Design, research and implementation of a computerized system for: traction / braking control; monitoring of ancillary services; train communication and control (Train Management System TMS); vehicle control, signaling and diagnosis; passenger information and comfort.

2. Objectives

2.1.Basic objectives

OB1- Relaunching the manufacture of electric railway vehicles in Romania, compatible with EU requirements and usable in Eastern Europe;
OB2-Application of state-of-the-art information technologies in the construction and operation of railway vehicles;
OB3-Increasing the energy efficiency of railway electric vehicles, reducing energy consumption and decreasing the costs of rail transport in relation to car transport;
OB4- Creating the technical conditions for the implementation of the SNTFC strategy (“HORIZON 2025”) in the field of electric vehicle manufacturing
OB5- Integration of the consortium in the Technological Platform ERRAC (Advisory Council for Research in the Railway Field)

2.2. Derived objectives

OD1- Use and modernization of the 2720kW electric frame infrastructure, prototype made between 1987 and 1994, from 1% research funds, owned by CFR.
OD2-use of specialized human resources (higher education, design, manufacturing) in the field of electric traction in the Craiova area
OD3- increase of scientific production, of national and international value, in the field of railway traction

Objective VII – Research on the intelligent vehicle system on: traction / braking control; monitoring of ancillary services; train communication and control (Train Management System TMS); vehicle control, signaling and diagnosis; information and comfort and safety for passengers, gravitational positioning (GPS)
Objective VIII – Execution project for the intelligent vehicle using the existing infrastructure.
